Extramural Supplement Recipients
On December 23, 2004 the NEI issued a "Notice of NEI Administrative Supplements to Enhance Diagnostic Genotyping for Ophthalmic Disease" (NOT-EY-05-002). The administrative supplements were designed to support research involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with ophthalmic diseases by facilitating access to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988 (CLIA)-certified research laboratories, as well as aiding in the establishment of additional CLIA-certified laboratories. Supplement recipients were selected in June 2005 and awards were issued to ten academically-based clinical research laboratories.
The NEI CLIA-certified Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, in collaboration with these ten supplement recipients with associated CLIA diagnostic capabilities, will be performing the molecular genetics testing on patient DNA samples.
